    August Giveaway!!

In honor of our board member Ryan, who put together an incredible set of all 524, we present a T206 Cy Young 3.5 Piedmont Factory No. 42 Glove Shows. We think he will appreciate the significance of this particular card while we remain in awe of his accomplishment. Best of luck to everyone, same rules as before!

I saw what the giveaway was, clicked on it, and holy shit- I get a shout out. Thank you, and what an amazing card to be giving away. Ben may not appreciate such a lofty card, but it’s phat enough that I am going to look at the rules and see how I get me one!

We figured if you had 524, we could give away 1. And we found what I understand is your favorite or your first or something like that. Meanwhile I see you’re registered already on PSA. I imagine you’ll be rapidly rising up the charts as time goes on. Congrats again!

Thanks, and I am making a concerted push to bye a player in the August giveaway. I am not much of seller, so I don’t know if I will have any BST posts, but I certainly can do three posts/day on the main board (this post 2). Here is a link to the registry set. I just added the Lajoie portrait posted on the August pickup thread. Now I just need to cross my Doyle and Cobb, and they must crack out the Doyle to cross it so I am very nervous there..... anyway, thanks again for the shout it and it’s an awesome card for a giveaway

It’s incredible that you are already at number 7 before Doyle. I imagine every auction will now be spent upgrading to climb the list. How high can you theoretically get to without overhauling a lot of the set? You can really see the unbelievable value of registry sets to the grading companies. It really locks you into their product.

And how can Michael Wachs show 100% complete without Wagner and Doyle?

After seeing the prices in Heritage for even commons, I think you not only have an incredible collection but also made a wise investment.

Nope, I will not play the registry game. Once the set is 100% complete and entombed in PSA plastic, it will be reholdered and relabeled (details you follow), and then I won’t touch it. I won’t seek to upgrade it. Chasing numbers on flips is fools gold and I ain’t no fool. It’s the completeness coupled with solid examples of each card that matters to me, not where I stand on a list. I will stand at #1 and only on having the 100% complete 524 set.

Now I just need the Doyle to cross and psa has to crack the card out of the SGC flip to do that. I don’t blame them - it’s a major card and they should inspect it in person (if they do their job right), but it’s a scary fucking proposition.

Anyone who shows 100% complete is not showing that on the 524 registry. There are many on the 520 registry who are 100% complete

Take a look. This is in the full set of 524 and shows him at 100% with Wagner and Doyle blank. Perhaps I’m missing something. I’m just trying to move you up the list faster!

Because .996 complete rounds up to 100?

    Re: August Giveaway!!

Here is what I see. 99.62% complete

And getting the Doyle registered will actually bring the set down. Thats because its grade will be raltively low and it will have a large weight (9). So my Wagner is a 1 and my Doyld in say a 3 really weighs down the set because they are low grade and weighted so much. The overall set rating will go up bc its 100% complete, so the rating will equal the GPA weighted, but the Doyle will drag down the GPA weighted. Any way you slice it, I will be at 7 or 8 and that will not change (because I will not be upgrading). I will be only 100% complete and thats A-Ok with me. That is a fact not determined by a grader's eye. That is a fact determined necessarily.

Perhaps they’re rounding up on the main page and then giving exact numbers on your page. You would think with something like this 100% needs to mean 100% and not rounded up. I would be very surprised if you don’t try and upgrade as time goes by. It’s easy to be content now after still remembering the cash coming out of your bank account, but I suspect in time you will be tinkering a bit. We shall see.

Maybe Joe “tinkering” a bit. Honestly, I don’t think I will. The cost to go up a mere .001 is not worth it. Plus, grades are BS and I don’t want to start chasing flips. But most relevant is that, with any luck, each card in the set have the same pedigree name on flip and will be sitting in some museum; so physically upgrading will be too difficult.

I’m going to have to ask the board monitor. The rules might be only eligible for T206 card owners of 523 or less. :D
